Leaving Dassen Island

Early morning and the wind has dropped, there were 9 other yachts there plus 8 fishing boats. Very peaceful.

Supper at Dassen Island

Wow what a great spread for dinner, cooked crayfish tails with Mayo sauce. The cut toe was worth it!!

First medical emergency on the boat! Glenn cut his toe by standing on the vernier! Not an easy place to bandage but masking tape did the trick.

Dassen Island

We are sleeping at Dassen Island tonight. We had an easy journey of 5 hours to get here. Rob and Glenn went off to drop the Crayfish nets and were soon back with our quota for supper. Here he is measuring them. Abit windy, but it should drop later.

Waiting

"Sea Wolff" on the right, in her new mooring at the Cape Grace Marina.
The yacht on the left is the same make of yacht that will be travelling with us in Feb 2010.
The 7 m SSB radio arial goes on soon, thats going to look strange. A normal yacht would have this arial in the mast but as we dont have a mast we need to put up a huge arial. This will enable us to get weather reports and send basic emails while crossing the Atlantic.

We had the amazing experience today of sailing with Dolphins. They swam around the boat and seemed to love being just infront of us. Sadly the sun was not out but the water was beautifully clear. They stayed with us for about 30 minutes, a real treat. We were just off Camps Bay , Cape Town. They are the Long-Beaked Common Dolphins.

Penguins

There are so many penguins (African penguin) about. We normally see one here and there but over the last 3 weeks we have seen large groups of penguins. Really great to see them as they are soo shy, we cant get very close to them. No whales have been spotted for a few weeks now. Really miss seeing them.
We tested the water maker out at see today and everything worked very well.

Sat 12 Sept we went to see the ship that was washed onto the Blaauberg beach by strong winds, during the week. She is carrying coal and is stuck in the sand. We were able to drive right around her as its about 10m deep there. We waved to the chaps working on board.

Sat 30 August, flat seas and no wind. We decided to cruise to Hout Bay to have lunch and fill the Diesel tanks. Passed this wreck on the way. It got very windy in Hout Bay and I was busy preparing the mooring lines so no video clips. Baked a very tasty loaf of bread on the way. Made a great tea time snack with jam and cheese.

With bad weather threatening we came back on Sunday afternoon. With the NW wind and swell behind us it was plain sailing all the way home. Still no fish!!

This weekend we sailed to Dassen Island north of Cape Town. The trip took 4hrs. Dassen Island is a reserve, it is populated by many birds, rabbits, tortoises and a small collony of Penguins. The weather was perfect.

Not sure if this video clip will work, its the first Whale we saw this year.

A rack has been fitted to the bimini to hold the Tenesol solar panels which should go up next week.

They will provide us with 350 amps per day.

Thats Rob in the bottom of the boat installing the Aqua marine water-maker. The long white tube is the device that 'filters' the salt out of the sea water. If all goes to plan we should get 90 liters of fresh water per hour. It will run every 3 days.

Rob has installed a cooldrink fridge upstairs.

We have added an awning around the back of Sea Wolff. This gives great protection from the wind and rain. There are windows which can be 'opened' for light or a view.

June 2009
Its winter and we are enjoying the calm days between the storms. The Sea can be very flat and a pleasure to cruise on. Seen our first whale in the bay!
Rob has just fitted a fridge upstairs, looks very good.

At Easter we did another trip to Langebaan with a stop at Dassen Island. Look at that amazing sunset. There were 4 other yachts in the bay. On the way we saw a huge Sun Fish, in the photo its lying on its side enjoying the sun and eating blue bottles and Jelly Fish. On leaving Cape Town the mountain looked like an Island.
We had fair weather and calm seas.

Feb 2009
At last she has a name...Sea Wolff

We took a trip to Port Owen and on the way back anchored in Paternoster Bay. Lots of fun was had trying to negotiate the waves as we beached the rubber duck in search of lunch.

Xmas 2008

Family came to visit us and special guest Contessa enjoyed looking for seals to bark at.
